On Thursday 8 October, we welcomed guests to Grosvenor House for the 11th Grosvenor Business Club, with pizza, prosecco and presentations. For fans of alliteration and networking, the event brought Birmingham’s business community together for an evening of conversation, connections and practical insights into business tax and HMRC compliance.
The Business Club is about more than swapping business cards. It gives local professionals the chance to meet people from different industries, share experiences and have conversations that can lead to genuinely useful connections.
This time, we were joined by Nick Bonnaud from Quest CMA Ltd, who shared his expertise on some of the financial responsibilities that come with running a business.
The Feature Presentation: Making Sense of Business Tax with Nick Bonnaud
Tax can be complicated, particularly for freelancers, sole traders, start-ups and growing companies getting to grips with their responsibilities.
Nick, Director and Chartered Management Accountant at Quest CMA Ltd, joined us to discuss corporation tax, self-assessment and HMRC compliance.
The session focused on practical guidance to help business owners better understand their obligations, avoid common pitfalls and keep their finances in order. These are important topics for businesses at every stage, whether they are filing their first tax return or managing the responsibilities that come with growth.
Having the opportunity to hear from an experienced professional and discuss the challenges businesses face is what the Grosvenor Business Club is all about.

Networking Over Pizza and Cupcakes
Of course, the evening was about learning something new and making important connections, but it was also a chance to enjoy pizza, cupcakes and a few drinks.
Guests had time to catch up with familiar faces and meet other local business owners and professionals in a relaxed setting at Grosvenor House. These informal conversations are a big part of the Business Club, giving people the chance to share ideas, discuss what they do and find common ground without the pressure of a formal networking session.
We often hear from attendees that networking makes them nervous. Selling yourself can be one of the hardest things to do when starting a business, so being in a more relaxed environment, especially with likeminded people, can help that elevator pitch come a little more naturally.
We were also pleased to serve wood-fired pizza from Otto Pizza, based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, alongside branded cupcakes from The Cake Edit. Both went down a treat with those in attendance.
Good food and an informal atmosphere helped bring the evening together, giving everyone more time to chat and make new connections.
More Than Just Networking
Since launching in 2024, the Grosvenor Business Club has continued to bring together business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals from across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Each event offers something a little different, from expert insights and practical advice to the opportunity to meet people working in different sectors. The aim remains the same: to create a welcoming space where people can connect, learn from one another and build relationships that continue beyond the event itself.
Our 11th gathering was no different, combining a useful discussion on business tax with time to meet other professionals over food and refreshments.
