Here at Grosvenor House, we work alongside businesses across all industries – from tech to HR, and marketing to fashion, our services can benefit a range of SME’s. One of our clients, who has been with us since 2023, is Proactive Health & Wellness, a Birmingham-based holistic wellness business ran by Matt Rai. We caught up with Matt to discuss the origins of Proactive, his goals for the year ahead, and how Grosvenor House have helped his business flourish.
Can you give a brief description of your company?
I founded Proactive Health & Wellness in late 2023, having worked in clinical practice in the NHS and in academia since 2016. As a result of these experiences, I decided to form an organisation that could serve the unmet health needs of the local community, by looking at health through a different lens. Proactive focuses on holistic health and wellbeing with a clear focus on the mind-body relationship and a ‘prevention is better than cure’ philosophy.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I have a passion for all things adrenaline, whether completing track days in race cars, driving my 4×4 camper through unchartered territories, or kayaking down white water – I am definitely a thrill seeker.
What are your biggest goals and what do you want to achieve in 2024?
Proactive has been created whilst I continue to work clinically for the NHS and simultaneously progress my academic career at University of Birmingham where I work as an Assistant Professor. As such, the plan to build Proactive is a steady, long-term vision. Currently, we are offering aesthetic treatments from our clinic space in Harborne. There are many more plans for Proactive, some of which we will keep quiet for now, but we can reveal that in 2024 we plan to become a trusted distributor of medical-grade skin care through partnerships with a very respected skincare brand. If you are looking for aesthetic treatments or medical-grade skin care, we’d be happy to carry out a no obligation consultation.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced?
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. It is made abundantly clear when you start a limited company that keeping detailed documentation is extremely important. The resulting amount of unpaid hours of administration is considerable, requiring consistency and patience!
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
‘In six months from now you can have six months of progress or six months of excuses – the choice is yours’.
What would you tell yourself if you could go back 5 years?
Focus on the process, the outcome will follow.
What is your daily routine?
I wake up at 6am and meditate for between 10-15 minutes. I then spend 5-10 minutes on flexibility exercises and then start preparing a natural, high protein breakfast. Next, I review my plan for the day ahead based on my notes for the evening before.
I continue to get myself ready for the day ahead and patiently clock watch until 07:30 at which point I sit and enjoy coffee uninterrupted with my wife without phones or distractions. No caffeine for 90 minutes after waking up is a rule I live by! I then head out for the day’s work aiming to incorporate as many steps during the working day as possible, weather and location depending.
After work I will either go to the gym for strength training or play squash. I usually do 2 strength sessions and 3 cardio or squash sessions every week. When I get home, I reflect on the day’s plan, specifically what went well, what didn’t go so well and why. I write all of this down and then prepare a plan for the following day. From 20:30 I don’t get any more blue light, allowing me at least 90 mins without screen time before bed. I am in bed before 22:00 to make sure I get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
What’s the one piece of kit you couldn’t live without?
Although I hate to say it, my iPhone allows me to manage all of my clinical shifts, teaching career and business operations. Although it is much more comfortable working from a computer at a desk, if needed I can remain fully operational with just my iPhone. This is another reason I have strictly no screen time after 20:30.
How did you hear about Grosvenor House?
I was searching for a virtual office space when I came across Grosvenor House. I arranged a viewing and immediately knew this was exactly what I was after. The team is really friendly and the facilities are perfect for my needs.
What services do you have with Grosvenor House and would you recommend the services to other businesses?
I currently have a registered office address at Grosvenor House as my work locations can vary significantly and I need a fixed space for administrative and logistical purposes. I like having the opportunity to book conference rooms as needed and as the business expands, I expect I will move onto a more comprehensive package including call handling. I also really enjoy the quarterly networking events!
