In a Nutshell…
Grosvenor House has supported Professor Paul Cadman and Life Sciences Week since 2020, providing a trusted virtual office, secure mail handling, and flexible meeting spaces. This has allowed Paul Cadman to focus on growing Life Sciences Week, building key partnerships, and raising the profile of life sciences in the West Midlands.
At Grosvenor House, we make it our mission to help businesses grow, offering the tools to provide their services with confidence. Today, we’re delighted to be shining a light on one of our valued clients, Professor Paul Cadman, who has been utilising our range of meeting rooms and virtual office services since 2020. During the past 5 years, we’ve seen Paul’s businesses flourish – from Walk Through Walls, Technology Supply Chain, and the subject of today’s piece, Life Sciences Week.
Showcasing Innovation in Life Sciences
While this is the first year of Life Sciences Week, the programme is building on the success of Birmingham Tech Week, which was launched in 2019. Wanting to “build something rooted in the city and region we love”, and with life sciences being one of the key pillars for the region that is projected to be “worth billions and to employ tens of thousands”, it made strategic sense to set up Life Sciences Week, and align with the University of Birmingham, BHIC and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
“This is a pivotal moment for the UK’s life sciences sector, and the West Midlands is stepping up to lead.” – Paul Cadman
Life Sciences Week aims to bring together “senior stakeholders from across government, industry, academia, and the NHS” to face the big questions surrounding the sector, to collaborate, build relationships and nurture the existing relationships in the life sciences sector.
Meet the Founder: Professor Paul Cadman
Professor Paul Cadman, the founder of Life Sciences Week, has a long-standing connection to the life sciences, including his ongoing donations of plasma for medicinal purposes. Having donated “over 200 times across nearly four decades, and with the thousands of other donors in the UK, we are helping save the NHS more than £30 million this year alone”.
But what does a typical day in the life look like for the creator of Life Sciences Week?
“I usually wake up around 2–2:30 am, check the news, shower, and have breakfast around 3:30–4 am. My working style isn’t bound by strict hours; I’ll often send out communications at all times, but I never expect immediate replies.
For me, it’s always about looking at the bigger picture in every meeting and thinking about the long-term journey, rather than the immediately obvious tunnel vision mentality. The mantra of imagining a world where your benefit to others is the measure of success rather than the accumulation of wealth always resonates.”
Ambitious Goals for 2025 and Beyond
Ever ambitious, Paul Cadman looks to create a range of events for Life Sciences Week that suit a wide range of demographics, to connect with people, learning and progressing. With the goal to raise the profile of life sciences, further cementing the region as a key contributor is an important goal.
Alongside this, the team aims to continue to “grow the success of West Midlands News, grow our public affairs agency Walk Through Walls, continue adding value to our 5k+ membership base at the Technology Supply Chain, and deliver an outstanding Innovation Awards in November.”
Essential Tools for Success
For Professor Paul Cadman, having the right tools in place is key to staying productive and effective. “Being heavily dyslexic, I rely on AI like ChatGPT — it’s a real lifeline,” he explains.
Beyond technology, having a trusted professional base can be equally important. Life Sciences Week has been supported by Grosvenor House since 2020, providing a reliable virtual office address, secure mail handling, and access to meeting spaces when needed.
“The service from the team, especially Holly, has been exceptional, you’re in safe hands, and nothing is ever a bother. Having that trusted resource is really powerful”.
