Grosvenor House Support Guide Dogs UK

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting Guide Dogs UK in our Executive Boardroom and Bar 11 for their Charity Conference.

Who are Guide Dogs UK?

Guide Dogs UK are a charity for people with sight loss across the UK. The charity provides and trains Guide Dogs for the blind and visually impaired. Guide Dogs UK also campaigns for the rights of people with sight loss, ensuring they are able to access the services they need and making sure public transport and streets are accessible for blind and partially sighted people.

Daniel the Guide Dog

At this year’s conference, local artist Willard Wigan sculpted a tiny guide dog puppy for charity. The sculpture named Daniel the Guide Dog took Wigan two months to make. It was made from a small piece of porcelain dinner plate and carved using a minute piece of diamond as a tool. The sculpture is mounted in the eye of a needle and was painted using a tiny eyelash. The sculpture is so small it’s the size of a full stop in a newspaper.

The sculpture is named Daniel after a fundraiser Wigan met in Birmingham. There has also been a puppy named after the sculpture, who will hopefully go on to change the life of someone currently living with sight loss.

In total it costs £54,800 to support a guide dog from birth, all the way through to retirement and this unique piece of art is available to buy with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so via just giving.
